These "Mustangs", like the "Duo-Sonics" and "later "Bronco's" were aimed at the Student market. Fender and Gibson both had an eye on these budding guitar pickers and strived to outdo each other by offering a line of guitars and amplifiers of a quality that matched their "big" guitars. Alder Body, Short Scale Rock Maple Neck, with a Rosewood Fretboard, F Stamped Tuners, 2 "Strat" like Pickups, Tremolo, 6 Saddle Fully Adjustable Bridge, 4 Bolt Neck plate and a very cool Pearloid Pickguard, make for a guitar of the same build quality, spec and Timber selection of any of the more expensive guitars that ever shipped out of the Fender plant at Fullerton. Accordingly, they sound and play great and have become a real alternative to a Strat or Telecaster. Affordable and different! This one was owned by a local fellow in Adelaide for the last 40 years. He had it finished in the late 70's by the late Nick Packard, a builder and repairer of some note. Nick used the same Nitro Cellulose Dupont paint and Colour Code that Fender used back in the day and it is very difficult to tell that it isn't the original finish. Plays and sounds as good as any Mustang going around!
