Danny Roberts signed the Label on Nov 14, 2003, in a period that is highly rated for these Master Model Mandolins. The "Fern" relates to the inlay on the Headstock, it's relevance is that the original F5 "Ferns" were the Mandolin produced after Lloyd Loar, (about 1927 I think) left the Factory and no longer signed the Mandolins once he approved them. The "Loar" F5's had a Flowerpot Inlay. This is an as new example, which sounds terrific and is set up beautifully. Beautiful Flamed Canadian Rock Maple Back, Rims (Sides people!) and Neck, Adirondack "Red" Spruce Top, Dot Inlaid Macassar Ebony Fretboard and Bridge. Visually, surely one of THE instruments of the 20th Century. R.I.P Mr Bill Monroe!
