Schoenberg "Soloist" #485284 - Sold

Schoenberg Guitars

"Made exclusively for Schoenberg Guitars by CF Martin & Co" says the Brass Plaque inside the guitar on the neckblock!

In the 1980s, fingerstyle maestro and guitar collector Eric Schoenberg arranged a collaboration between Martin and selected luthiers to make, in the Martin factory, a small run of guitars based on Eric's own 1929 OM. including 1 13/16" width at the nut and  2 3/8" at the bridge.

The resulting guitars bear Martin serial numbers and in fact are the earliest of Martin's 20th century 'golden era' reproductions.  The cosmetics are classic: simple ebony and maple purflings, rosette with ivoroid bindings, ebony pyramid bridge and a unique back stripe created by luthier Dana Bourgeois; all concentrated on vintage OM tone.

A label inside signed by Dana Bourgeois states that he selected all of the materials used on the guitar, graduated the timbers and scalloped the braces. So, an impressive collaboration which resulted in a very interesting, highly playable guitar with a very sophisticated tone, ideal for fingerpicking!  According to Schoenberg records, #485284 has a Brazilian Rosewood body and headstock overlay, with a tight grained top grade Sitka spruce top, Ebony fretboard and "Pyramid" Bridge. Eric specified that these "Soloists", have cutaways and pickups as part of their specification, so they are ready to go when it comes to performance. A terrific and rare guitar, highly recommended!
